Banana Blueberry Quickbread

When i first saw the word, Quickbread, i was quite curious how exactly does that taste like.
After doing some research on www, realised that it's actually quite similar to muffins except that maybe you do it in loaf pan or round pan instead of cups.. :)

I tried this recipe from HHB... I must say this is my best bake so far.. the appearance and texture are just wonderful (erm.. for my level of expectation of course!!)

Is a rather simply fuss free recipe to follow, just mix, pour & bake.. and TADA!!

Froggie Bento

Used the pandan bread to cut out the frog head... Doesn't really look exactly like a frog though I should really get the Nori puncher so that the face details looks more real.

Added 2 pcs of the doggies cookies and 1 piece of Minnie biscuits. (All the mickey biscuits have broken ears so cannot be use here.. ) and some cherries

The scramble eggs was for Lucas and he loves it.

Since I bought an oven (oh.. it's just a very cheap one.. cost me only $60 bucks), so I must put it into good use right?

So I make this baked rice for lunch. This dish is very simple and easy to make. Do give it a try.

Lucas 13th & 14th Month Pictures

Lucas is Sick :(

Just a few days back I was commenting on how good breast milk was in building up Lucas's immunity, now he is sick! :(

Last Tuesday he got infected with viral fever, the temperature was still quite ok during the day ranging from 37.5 to 38.5 degree. By 8pm, he hit 39.8 degree, for a moment I thought my thermoscan was spoilt!
Quickly rush him down to the GP and it was really 39.2 degree. Doctor gave us some medication to bring the fever down and he did a urine test. Thank god there isn't any infection.

By 3am, he hit 41 degree, I almost got a shock. How can it be so high when his urine test is normal. I quickly wake Des up, get changed and rush to KK. As usual, given medication on the spot and they placed a urine bag on him to do another test again. We waited for 3 hours before Lucas urinated!! Phew!! But luckily he passed the test.
The doctor reckon that this is just viral fever which will last for 3-4 days with the temperature going very high up for the 1-2 days. She advised that if Lucas's feeding is ok and he is still alert, there isn't a need to go to the doctor every now and then when we see a high reading on the thermoscan (this would just make us more frustrated). We can give him medication to control the temperature (don't let it go beyond 38.5 degree) and sponge him to bring the fever down. The main area to sponge would be forehead, neck, armpit and groin. These are the areas where the big blood vessels are.

Finally his fever was gone by Thursday midnight. However, by Friday evening, rashes started to appear on his tummy. According to my mum, this is normal but I never see such things before, so was quite concern. The next day, we went to GP again and before I could ask he already know why I was there :)
Gave us some anti-itch medication saying that the rashes will go away in a few days time. This is commonly known as false measles which is normal after a viral fever attack.

Before the rashes are gone, he is now down with diarrhoea. OMG!!! My poor poor Lucas is being hit by so many sickness one after another. His butt is all red and sore now.. dare not even sit on the floor and wants to be carry on the while. Won't even let Des carry him cos he didn't manage to handle him properly and hurt his butt...
Hope he recovers soon!

My First Cookies

Tried two different kind of cookies, Mickey & Minnie Mouse Cookies & Milo Doggies Cookies.

Using a Mickey & Minnie cookie cutter, here are the pre-bake cut out dough.

The taste are quite nice, but somehow the colours were really out of my imagination. Such a far cry from what I saw in HHB's blog. Here are the final product - "Sun Tanned" Mickey & Minnie.

But the girls said it's nice.. that's good enough for me.. keke

The 2nd type I tried was Milo Doggies (well as the description says, there's milo in it). But this recipe does not need any eggs... which made me puzzle in the first place and I read and re-read the recipe many times over and over again to make sure my eyes are not playing tricks on me!

Taste is totally different from the mickey mouse cookies.. they were very soft not as crunchy as compared to Micky & Minnie.

Thank God!!...& Breast milk too :)

This is a rather late post, cos finally i got some time off to work on the blog..
(ermm was too busy learning baking and playing farm & restaurant city :P)

On the 8th of May (Sat), my little niece, Joey, came from KL to visit us and also to celebrate Amy's 21st.
During the party, she played with Lucas and another niece of mine, Leanne (same age as Lucas).
As Lucas was too busy climbing and crawling all over the house, so he had lesser contact with her as compared to Leanne.
Just after the party ended, Joey's mummy realised that her mouth is having a few ulcer!
Since they are going back the next day afternoon, so decided to see the doctor only when they are back home.

The following Wednesday Leanne was diagnose with HFM!!!
Her mum was very puzzle as in how could Leanne be infected when she is not attending school or childcare. (She is recovering well now.. but she had infected another niece.. sigh!!)

Only when I told my mum about this, then she realised that the cause could be Joey as she was having some ulcer!!
I was so shocked and quite upset that my mum overlooked this and she didn't told me about it at all. The worst thing was, Lucas's toys were also being played by Joey and she forgot to wash them when they went back home!!
My mum quickly called Joey's Dad and they confirmed that she is having HFM!!!!!

Till now, Lucas did not show any signs and I think he should be quite safe... Thank God & Breast milk for his strong immunity... :)

Feeding nightmare

It's getting more & more difficult to feed Lucas these days.

Refused milk, refused porridge.

When it's milk feeding time, he will just suck the bottle but no milk is being drink. He looks as if he is drinking with the sucking sound but when I put the bottle down, it's still at 7 oz!!!

When it comes to porridge feeding, eyes rubbing, head swinging, lips tightly closed, staring at the TV (even when it's showing the news) and treat me as if I'm transparent!!

When you ask, "Lucas, do you want your stars?" His will grin from ear to ear and start shouting "Star Star"
("Stars" is actually the Gerber baby cereals in star shape and that's where he learnt the word)
When he sees that container of Post cereal on the coffee table, he will shout for "mum mum"
He just loves his biscuits but I can't be giving him that all the time.

I know kids tends to refuse food or have poor appetite. Hope I will get over these soon!

Chocolate Chips & Raisin Muffins

Browse through quite a few blogs on baking and decide to give muffins baking a try...

The first time failed as I over mixed the batter (suppose to be lumpy but i got it smooth)
They still turn out to look like muffins but then they are quite hard and dry. The next day, I think they taste almost like scorns!



The 2 time i was a little too greedy and fill up the muffins cups to the brim. Ended up with muffins overflowed!!



So I did another batch again.. Ah-ha.. i got it.. this time i only half filled the muffins cups.






Taste wise is not too bad as I follow exactly the recipe provided by one of the blogger mummy.

With the 3 baking experience.. I "confidently" promise Amy to bake some for her birthday.

As I still prefer them to be abit overflow and so I actually filled up the cups a little bit more than half.. and the results are quite ok.
So here are the ones for Amy.. Happy 21st Birthday Amy!!
